RP2350 Simple Build
MCU-first proof-of-concept — $83 total, no Linux
The learner build. Proves that Soohoo's BOM validation process works all the way down to a $5 microcontroller. RP2350 handles motor control, obstacle avoidance, and IMU fusion in a tight deterministic loop — no OS, no cloud, no complexity. Ship something that moves on day one.

Engineering Review
Human-validated before this BOM ships. Every point checked on reference hardware.
7.4V 2S: RP2350 250mA + L298N logic 60mA + motors 2×150mA (running) + sensors 60mA = 670mA average. 1200mAh = 1.8hr, 2.5hr in light nav mode.
L298N rated 2A/channel, motor stall 0.8A. 2.5× margin at stall. Module heats above 1.2A continuous — add heatsink tab for runs exceeding 15 minutes.
RP2350 PIO state machines generate 10µs trigger pulses and measure echo without CPU jitter. All 3 sensors timed simultaneously with 0.1µs resolution.
4MB onboard flash. MicroPython runtime 1.1MB + nav firmware 400KB + data logging 200KB = 1.7MB total. 2.3MB free for user extensions.
Target 100Hz. MPU-6050 I2C read 0.4ms + 3× ultrasonic 2.3ms each + PWM update 0.1ms = 7.4ms total. 2.6ms headroom per cycle.
HC-SR04 blind below 2cm. Safe stop distance from obstacle at 20cm: 0.12m/s max. N20 response curve tested — motors stop within 18cm at cruise speed.
Acrylic chassis and N20 motors cannot overcome carpet pile resistance at 6V. Rated for smooth tile, hardwood, and low-nap mat only. Gravel/ramp = no.
No hardware e-stop, no watchdog, no cliff detection. Before field deployment: add GPIO interrupt-driven motor kill and downward-facing IR sensor to caster mount.
