Pricing FAQ
What does "BOM cost" mean exactly?
The BOM cost is the sum of all component prices at time of validation — typically at Adafruit, Amazon, or Mouser retail prices. Your actual cost varies with shipping, import fees, and current supplier pricing. We flag the 3-5 highest-cost components so you can shop around.
Why not sell a complete kit (parts bundled)?
Bundling would require us to hold inventory, manage logistics, and mark up parts. That's a different (harder) business. More importantly, you'd lose supply chain control — when a component gets revised or discontinued, you're stuck. Owning your BOM means you can substitute and adapt.
Is there a discount for multiple kits?
Not currently. But if you're building 5+ copies for a lab or classroom, email spencer@soohoo.me — we'll talk through volume supplier accounts and bulk pricing strategies.
Will the BOM cost go up over time?
Component prices fluctuate. We update BOM costs quarterly and always show the "validated on" date alongside pricing. If a component goes significantly out of stock or is discontinued, we replace it and document the substitution.
